    A free public lecture at the Museum of Tropical Queensland on Tuesday 12 July at 12pm will reveal how new species are being described every day.

    The talk by Assistant Curator Chad Buxton of the Museum’s Tropical Biodiversity section, offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the way an unknown organism becomes a new species.

    School holiday visitors to the Museum of Tropical Queensland can look forward to a palaeontological adventure with free activities planned for the whole family as part of Dino Discoveries from 25 June to 10 July.

    Visitors will have the opportunity to reacquaint themselves with the Museum’s mascot Dinomite, a life-size animatronics carnosaur, who will be roaming around the Museum at 11.30am and 2pm on weekdays.

    The talk, titled “Space, time, and cane toads: fascinating lessons from one of the world’s worst invaders” reveals some fascinating facts about our much-loathed backyard denizen.

  • Rare diving helmet on display at Museum of Tropical Queensland

    A rare heritage diving helmet manufactured in the 1840’s is now on display at the Museum of Tropical Queensland, Townsville.

    The ‘A. Siebe’ helmet, named after its manufacturer Christian Augustus Siebe, is believed to be one of the earliest examples of standard diving dress helmets and was recently donated to the Queensland Museum by private collectors Greg and Helen Langley of Hobart.
