Meet Dougie

Dougie the Muttaburrasaurus

The Queensland Museum Network has had a dino-sized response to suggest a name for our newest book character.

After much deliberation, the panel of judges decided on Dougie, submitted by Sue Collins from Townsville.

Sue suggested Dougie to honour her father, Doug Langdon who was the grazier who discovered Muttaburrasaurus on his Roseberry Downs property 50 years ago. As the book is an early childhood reader, she thought Dougie rather than Doug would be more appealing to young children.

Submissions were received from around Queensland. Among the most popular were Doug, Douglas, Chomper and Herbie.

The early children’s book, Happy Birthday Muttaburrasaurus is due for release in time for Christmas.

The Queensland Museum Network would like to thank all those who suggested names.

Happy Birthday Muttaburrasaurus, featuring the newly named Dougie the Muttaburrasaurus will be available for purchase from the Queensland Museum Shop in December and online.
